☀️ Sun, Sand... and Serious Play 🧱
Welcome to the fifth edition of my newsletter
As many of us start packing for summer holidays - swimsuits, suncream, and maybe even a few sneaky LEGO® bricks - I’ve been packing something else into a very busy July: fresh ideas, colourful kits, and bold new plans for an exciting autumn ahead.
While the season may invite a slower pace, there’s no slowing down here! From delivering my first certified LEGO® Serious Play® facilitator training, preparing for Lean Agile Scotland and appearing in The LSP Podcast, it’s been a busy few weeks. And there’s even more on the horizon.
So whether you're reading this from a sun lounger or between meetings, I hope you enjoy this snapshot of what’s been happening, what’s coming soon and how you could get involved.
🧱 A First to Remember: LSP Facilitator Training in Wakefield
On the 1st and 2nd of July, I had the absolute pleasure of delivering my first certified LEGO® Serious Play® Facilitator training in-person, right in the heart of Wakefield.
Over two dynamic days, three brilliant participants explored the foundations and power of The LSP Method, developed by Michael Fearne. Each of them left not only with new tools and techniques but as certified facilitators, ready to run their own impactful LEGO® Serious Play® sessions.
The training was packed with insight, but one moment stood out: the creation of the ‘Curiosity Corridor’. This simple yet powerful concept, created by Tom Hoyland, offers a beautifully structured way to guide questioning, deepen inquiry, and explore the metaphors revealed in participants' builds. If you’re curious, you can read more about the ‘Curiosity Corridor’ here.
I’m so proud of what we created together over those two days and excited to see where these new facilitators take their skills next.
👇 Read on for details below about future training sessions.
🎨 The Psychology of Colour
When someone reaches for a red brick instead of blue, is it just chance, or could there be something deeper at play?
In a recent article, I explored how the colours we choose during LEGO® Serious Play® sessions may not be as random as they seem. Drawing on the work of thinkers like Goethe, Jung, and Eva Heller, we begin to see that colour is more than aesthetic - it’s emotional, symbolic, and often subconscious.
Our personal associations with colour are shaped by experience, culture, and context, and they can offer rich clues during metaphor exploration.
Understanding colour psychology in LSP doesn’t mean we jump to conclusions, but it can prompt deeper inquiry.
If you’re curious about what your own colour choices might be saying (consciously or not), this one’s for you.
🎙️ The LSP Method Podcast: Agile, Scrum and the Philosophy of LSP
I had the pleasure of appearing on Episode 19 of Michael Fearne’s The LSP Method Podcast.
Our conversation explored how LSP connects with Scrum and agile ways of working, the art and craft of facilitation, and what it truly means to pursue mastery in this space. Michael summed up the episode perfectly as “a dive into the philosophy of LSP, facilitation and the idea of mastery”.
If you’re interested in gaining fresh insights into LSP’s deeper purpose and practical application, I’d highly recommend giving it a watch (or a listen).
